Emmanuel Bach Trio
Led by Brazilian guitarist Emmanuel Bach, the trio brings together the sophistication of modern jazz with the rhythmic richness of Brazilian music.
Emmanuel, originally from Brazil and now a key figure in the Winnipeg jazz scene, holds a master's degree from the University of Manitoba. He has released three albums as a leader and performed with legends like Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, and Ivan Lins.
The trio features two of Canada's most in-demand musicians:

Fabio Ragnelli (Drums)
A JUNO Award-winning drummer, Fabio has toured internationally and performed at prestigious venues like The Blue Note and Birdland in NYC. He has collaborated with artists across the globe and brings a dynamic, modern rhythmic approach to the trio.

Karl Kohut (Bass)
Assistant Professor of Jazz Bass at the University of Manitoba, Karl spent four years in NYC performing with icons like Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. A Juilliard graduate, he brings world-class experience and deep groove to the ensemble.

Paul Balcain
Voice & Saxophone
With over 25 years of experience, Paul Balcain is a cornerstone of the Winnipeg jazz scene. He has performed as a featured soloist with jazz icon Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. His extensive resume includes recordings with the JUNO-nominated Wyrd Sisters and the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and performances opening for acts like The Watchmen and Big Sugar.

Ava Maya
Baritone Saxophone
Ava Maya is a blooming musician and composer from Winnipeg, specializing in the baritone saxophone. Actively involved in the vibrant local scene, she focuses on creating music that is personal, energized, and authentic.

Jon Gordon
Saxophone
A native New Yorker and winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, Jon Gordon is a world-renowned saxophonist and composer. He has performed and recorded with jazz legends including Phil Woods, Ron Carter, Tony Bennett, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. His album 'Within Worlds' was named one of the top jazz recordings of the decade by DownBeat magazine.

Jon Challoner
Trumpet
A JUNO Award winner and Grammy nominee, trumpeter Jon Challoner is a force in the international jazz world. He has performed at prestigious venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center and Birdland in NYC. A Juilliard graduate, he has collaborated with legends such as Paquito D'Rivera and currently holds the Babs Asper Professorship in Jazz Performance at the University of Manitoba.

Carter Graham
Piano
Pianist and composer Carter Graham is known for his blues-based style that fuses jazz, bebop, and soul. He holds a Master of Music from Michigan State University and has shared the stage with jazz luminaries like Rodney Whitaker and Derrick Gardner. A versatile artist, he leads the trio 'Free Time' and the soul outfit 'Vox Populi'.

Karly Epp
Voice
A top-15 finalist in the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition, vocalist Karly Epp is known for her nuanced and emotive delivery. She holds a Master's from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Gretchen Parlato. Karly has performed at major festivals across North America and held a residency at New York's historic 55 Bar.

Will Bonness
Piano
Winner of the 2022 JUNO Award for Jazz Album of the Year, pianist Will Bonness has toured the world with Maynard Ferguson and performed at NYC's Blue Note and Smalls. An Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba, he has collaborated with jazz greats like Avishai Cohen and Jimmy Greene.
